City Pilgrimage Tours – Pilgrimage in the heart of Stralsund
The Ökumenische Pilgerinitiative e.V. (ÖPI) has been offering pilgrimage tours in and around Stralsund for around five years. The aim is to bring people closer to churches, history and faith in a lively way. The starting point is the Pilgrimage Chapel in the Kulturkirche St. Jakobi, where tours, church services and prayer sessions take place.
The city pilgrimage tours invite visitors to see Stralsund through new eyes. Churches, monasteries and historic sites tell stories of faith, hope and community. The tours appeal to visitors as well as locals.
Particularly popular is the church and monastery pilgrimage tour, which takes place every Friday from Pentecost until the end of September. With its own pilgrim’s passport and special stamps, it delights people with and without a church background. Schools, the police, the German Armed Forces and groups for the deaf also make use of the programme.
New additions include tours such as ‘Silently around the Old Town’ or ‘Beneath Stralsund’s church roofs’. The programme is complemented by the ‘Little Pilgrim’s Break’ as well as special projects such as ‘Discovering places of power in Grünhufe’, where residents show their neighbourhood from a personal perspective.
